Nonprofit Mailing Privileges

It is a common misconception that a nonprofit organization can mail at the nonprofit postage rates simply because it has been granted nonprofit status by the IRS.  This is not the case.  The Post Office maintains its own qualification standards for nonprofits, only one of which is having obtained the proper nonprofit status with the IRS.  In order to get the nonprofit rates, the organization must be an authorized nonprofit at the local Post Office where the mailing will be presented, and the organization name and return address must appear on the piece, exactly as it is registered with the Post Office.  In addition to these basic standards, there are many other complex rules regarding nonprofit mailings that are too detailed to describe here.  Please contact us, if you would like further information and guidance on nonprofit mailings.
